Meet Shay.

The industrial designer behind Figura.

Meet the founder

Shay Josef Castel

Founder · Industrial designer · Workshop manager

A drawing gives Shay the starting point. Making it stand up is a design problem.

Shay Josef Castel is Figura’s founder, an industrial designer and a workshop manager. His background is in product design, materials and production: how an idea becomes something you can hold.

With Figura, the idea already exists on the page. A long pair of ears, an uneven smile or a character with five legs gives the design its identity. The work is to interpret that flat drawing as a solid object, including the sides and back that the drawing does not show.

You take part in that process. First you review an image preview, then a 3D model you can turn around. Check the details that matter to you before approving. After checkout, the design goes through a production check for scale, structure and printability.

See drawing and figurine examples, or follow the steps from upload to production review.

What goes into a Figura.

Start with the drawing

The shape, colours and distinctive marks guide the design. Compare the previews with the original to check what has carried through.

Look from every side

A drawing shows one view. The 3D preview lets you inspect the depth, back and connections before you decide to order.

Check it can be made

A preview is a design to review. The workshop checks its structure, scale and printability before printing. Figurines are for display, not play.
